Syed Rizwan Farook
Syed Rizwan Farook & Tashfeen Malik
Update 1: Some victims names released by San Bernadino Police @ 13:37 PT 2015-12-03 below.
Yesterday, December 3, 2015, another mass shooting happened in San Bernadino, California, USA at the Inland Regional Center, a center for for people with developmental disabilities. Currently there is no known motive. As news came out it was reported that there were between one and three active shooters and they were Caucasian. As the media was updated, it was later discovered that it was a man and his wife who had carried out the shooting at his workplace and that they were of middle eastern descent and Muslim. This story is changing from moment to moment so I will be updating this blog as it happens.
Inland Regional Center
It appears that Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, parents of a 6 month old child, were Muslim but the police are not quick to say if this was a terrorist attack from being radicalized. At this point there is only speculation so there is no point in saying whether or not his religion radicalized him causing he and his wife to kill 14 people and 21 other injured, leaving their 6 month old daughter without parents.
Syed and Tashfeen
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives reported that two assault rifles and two handguns, which were used in the killings, were all purchased legally in the United States — two of them by a person who is now under investigation. Meredith Davis, a spokesperson for the agency, said investigators are now working to make a connection to the last legal purchaser of the guns.
A bag which is alleged to belong to the Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik was found inside the conference center. Inside, investigators found three rudimentary explosive devices packed with black powder, rigged to a remote controlled car. The remote for car was found inside the SUV where Farook and Malik were later killed, a law enforcement official from San Bernadino Police Department said. Both Farook and Tashfeen were also alleged to be wearing GoPro cameras when they were killed. This is not the first time when an attacker wore a body camera. The gunman who killed four people at the Jewish Museum in Brussels also filmed his attack with a camera mounted on his chest.
I responded to incorrect media posts done and said Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik were Caucasian and not Muslim. I still don’t think this is a race issue. I think this may have been a case of Syed being angered at his company Christmas party and then choosing to, according to sources, to go home and carry out a tragic mass shooting.
One thing this story is doing is causing people to once again bash Muslims and use this as an excuse not to allow those who are Muslim and fleeing Syria to have entrance to North America. How do the racists know who is Muslim and who is Christian or Jewish or Sikh or Hindu? They can’t. So I hope they stop putting every person leaving that country, into the same proverbial bucket painting them with one color and that is terrorist.
The police have started to provide as much information as they can about this case but cannot give all info, which is understandable. The hospital, where many injured patients attended, says there are currently 2 people still in critical condition and three in stable condition. Understandably the hospital is not giving names or other info which may jeopardize their privacy. The President has once again made another speech about yet another mass shooting int he US but this time he appeared defeated and like he was reading the same script from last week and the week before. Did you know that since 2013 there has been one mass shooting in the United States every week? What is a mass shooting? When four or more people are killed.
As updates become available I will add them here.
Anyone who suspects a relative was killed or injured can call a family assistance hotline at (800) 637-6653.
According to the San Bernadino Police department, there will be a candlelight vigil tonight for those affected by the shootings.
According to their Twitter feed, they hope to release victims names later today.
